may be the video driver.
i see in the Internet something about a Bug in the last NVIDIA driver.
if you is using the version 295 driver, you may try to downgrade to the 290.
Also, you can check the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file e try to adjust resolution using the nvidia-settings configurator.
