How do I get my wifi USB dongle working in Sabayon. Its an Atheros chipset and have tried using ndiswrapper but cant seem to add the 'ndiswrapper' line to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 I read this is where you want to add 'ndiswrapper' so it loads at boot but can't seem to figure it out. Please help and thanks in advace!

You mean that you are able to get the card to work if you manually load the ndiswrapper module, for example if you run:
(as root)

but you are unable to load that module at boot?

Unfortunately that instruction is out of date, as SL uses Baselayout2/OpenGL, and that instruction is for Gentoo/SL using Baselayout1.

The correct file to edit in order to automatically load a module at start-up is /etc/conf.d/modules

For example, in my case I want the three modules vboxdrv vboxnetflt and vboxnetadp to be loaded automatically at start-up, so my /etc/conf.d/modules looks like this:

hmm okay so I tried all that and got the modules edited to load "ndiswrapper" @ boot but still can't seem to get the usb wifi working. Perhaps I have a wrong driver. even upon modprob ndiswrapper I have no results....I do know, with "ArtistX (ubuntu)" the wifi usb is instantly detected and in working order. I wonder if I can pull the drivers from that release and use it within Sabayon to get this working. Any suggestions and thx

etc etc. Perhaps that was an older release to where you have to install ndiswrapper

NDISWrapper is horrific hack so we dont want to use that, make sure the module is unloaded and things before proceeding.

Your chip is actually supported by a "proper" linux module ar9170. This driver is (afaik) in the sabayon kernel, so you should be able to (as root)

and your adapter should appear in :

Then networkmanger should do the rest for you....
