Screen goes black

Screen goes black

Have a LCD screen that does to screensaver then every now and then the screen goes black. The box is running but the LCD screen shows it in the sleep mode. Moving the mouse will not wake it up. Pressing the power switch does nothing. I have to pull the plug out. Any ideas? Monitor is a HP 1730. Box is HP Compaq

KDE or GNOME?
Have you checked the power management settings?

KDE. This is something that has just recently started. I don't know why as I have not changed anything. Standby, Suspend and Power off are all disabled.
