configuring HP scanjet G2410

Hi,
I have a HP Scanjet G2410 that I am trying to configure on my laptop. The laptop is recognised by sabayon as is evident from the output of lsusb -

I am able to scan from command line with scanimage. But xsane is unable to scan. Though it correctly recognizes the scanner but when I press "Acquire Image" tab, the roller moves about a cm or 2, then I get a corrupted image in the preview pane.
I have added hp2400 to /etc/sane.d/dll.conf, still I am getting a corrupted image in xsane.
I hope somebody on this forum is able to sort out my problem.

According to the SANE Project Web site, the HP ScanJet 2400c is not supported yet, and the HP ScanJet G2410 is a clone of the 2400c:

Hmm...

This is a long shot, but anything is worth a try.

Look for a file in the directory /etc/udev/rules.d/ called something like 41-libsane.rules (the number does not matter).

Open it as root user using the nano text editor and look for the line LABEL="libsane_usb_rules_begin"

Below that you should see some rules for various models of Hewlett-Packard USB scanners.

Add the following two lines to the beginning of that list:
