Phone mounted as cdrom [Solved]

When I plug my phone (T-Mobile pulse mini) into a USB socket it is mounted as a cdrom and cannot be used. However, if I start my VirtualBox and boot a virtual XP and then add it as a device to the XP and close down XP, it is recognized by my Sabayon as 3.7 GB removable media and I can add and remove files without any problem.
Is there any way to prevent the phone being seen as a cdrom?

Thank you. I've installed it and am busy reading the "help". This has reminded me that there is a thread about printers with usb_modeswitch in it. I shall read that too.

If that doesn't help then have a look in the file /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules to see if your phone is listed in there. If it is, you may be able to delete the entry (backup the file first, of course) and stop udev recognising the phone as a CDROM.

Thank you both for your input but I'm afraid I've not been successful.

I installed usb_modeswitch and, after a lot of floundering, found and installed the usb_modeswitch-data. Nothing changes I'm afraid, even editing a file in /etc/usb_modeswitch.d failed.

Removing the references to the phone from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules failed too. They are just rewritten as soon as the phone is plugged in.

My only thought now is to, somehow, remove the autorun files from the phone to see if that stops the phone being recognized as a CD but, for the time being, I will stick with the Virtual XP workaround. As a side note, the XP doesn't recognize the phone as mass storage either but that is not important.

I shall mark this as solved. The phone now mounts the phone as removable media. Presumably this has been fixed during an update.
