Oracle 11g ebuild [SOLVED]

Does anybody know of an ebuild for the new Oracle 11g for linux (exclusive!)? Probably not, since the 10g dev-db/oracle-xe ebuild still isn't even in the portage tree.

It comes in a 1.7GB zip download from http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/oracle11g/index.html. I will start with the existing 10g xe ebuild located at http://overlays.gentoo.org/dev/dertobi123/browser/dev-db/oracle-xe?rev=1. First, has anyone already tried setting up 11g without an ebuild? Experience would be useful.

I'll echo this on gentoo forums.

I doubt anyone here has any oracle experience but I might be wrong. Mine is from 2 thousand years ago / 1999 about so it mostly forgotten.
You can try the oracle site possibly they will make a ebuild for you or even gentoo.org forums / wiki might be of help.

The google searches I did , did not show anything worthwhile.
Think the german part of the forum might have SAP info / knowledge not sure.

See PM I send.

FYI I dropped this topic but revisited it in the wake of Oracle's recent 11g XE release. A howto can be found in the wiki:

Good Wiki item..
But not to make a political football about it I will have to say..........
I have not used Oracle myself since version 8.xx. The way things seem to unfolding since Ellison's purchase of Sun with OpenOffice etc.. many in the Linux community are waiting for the other Shoe to fall.
Will Oracle keep Mysql? What is OpenOffice's fate? Then what about Java (maybe nothing)?
Will Oracle remain friendly to Open Source Community?

I used to think that Ellison was at least friendly to OSF but I if he isn't many in the Linux Server Community will think twice before embracing Oracle. JMHO

I still remember..

in full Structured Query Language.

Computer programming language used for retrieving records or parts of records in databases and performing various calculations before displaying the results.

Times they are a-changing. I think there are things that Oracle does well and things that MySQL does well. Oracle is particularly good at lightening wallets, for example. MySQL is particularly good at being simplistic and easy to manage.

I'm the optimist type that believes life will go on even if MySQL disappears. If it does, someone else (maybe even me) will be sure to jump in with a new open source DBMS with innovative tweaks that help it gain popularity until the next behemoth buys out THAT company and so on repeats the cycle.
