Question about Kuroo/Portage

Postby ToneDeaf » Sat Jul 07, 2007 23:47

I am using the 64 bit build of loop3, but I have noticed this with all loops and architectures. For the vast majority of apps in portage, it says "no versions available on amd64" or "no versions available for x86." Since I have found a few apps that are available for these architectures, I am wondering why this happens. Would this occur if I used vanilla gentoo? (not that I would ever want to. Sabayon spoils me) Should I simply download the source for what I want or could someone tell me how to get around this please?

Thanks in advance

Hi

I get the same results but it is often untrue. i.e. an ebuild that says it is not suitable for amd64 usually is. I haven't found away around it yet and kuroo isn't being actively developed at the moment which is a pitty as it's my favourite portage gui. You should still beable to install the packages though; if not by the gui then by the command line.

I often find that kuroo doesn't show any of my ebuilds in the sabayon overlay either unless they are already installed which is another pain.

There is another portage gui called portato which you shouldn't get this problem with. You can find info about it here http://www.necoro.net/?projekte/portato.en as well as a few other threads on this forum.

All the best

dave_p_b: Didn't you help me with the 3.4 final release date? Yes you did. Thanks again! I installed portato fine (Thanks wolfden) and as soon as Amarok finishes taking music off my 'Pod I will try it out. Thank you all.

PS: As more noobs such as myself show up, they are going to be confused about kuroo. perhaps portato should be integrated into 3.4 final?

Same thing for me. (And I like the Kuroo GUI too, BTW).

I have not noticed this so far.

Just be a hero and use the terminal. It's faster anyway.

Also, have you tried updating kuroo/portage?

emerge portage
emerge kuroo
