Install Enlightenment e17 from official overlay

Postby ElDuderino » Fri Jul 20, 2012 23:34

Hi,

I'm new to Sabayon, but have experience with linux (coming from debian/ubuntu flavours). I installed CoreX 9 in a virtual machine to test how to install a more recent e17 in sabayon from the overlay. I followed the instructions http://overlays.gentoo.org/dev/vapier/wiki/enlightenment and also of course have the overlay activated and did emerge --sync and layman -s enlightenment. When calculating dependencies, emerge says there are conflicts (seems to be between necessary version from portage and installed sabayon version) and I don't know how to solve them. I cannot attach files at the moment (according to the board), so the out put is here: http://pastebin.com/u7a1h4Pm

Should I maybe uninstall and then mask the conflicting packages, and then install them from portage? But which packages exactly, if yes? It says there are 2 blocks, but is lists so many packages. Please excuse my noobiness.

Many thanks,
the dude

Why don't you use Entropy =Sabayon's package manager to install E17?
Code: Select all
equo install enlightenment

Because I want a more recent version, or at least I want to try it, hence the virtual machine. The version in entropy is from february. I know there are two package managers and the difference between them.

I would really just appreciate some hints or directions how to find out how to solve those conflicts. I also tried the --autounmaskt-write options, it reduced the errors, but it boiled down to two blocks again, although three packages were listed.

I'm interested in a newer Version of e17 in Sabayon. The available Version is from February, threre were much changes since then.

Hi Sparrow242,

with some help from the people in #sabayon and #gentoo-e, I managed to install e17 from overlay. Seems that using the snapshot version isn't working, using the live ebuilds did the trick! I also tried the niifaq overlay, had to pull in some more deps from entropy first, but it's working fine, too.

Just read up on using portage and mixing entropy/portage first, then follow the gentoo wiki entry on installing e17.

Good luck!
