kernel 2.6.32

Postby demianx681 » Sun Feb 21, 2010 16:09

Hi all,

after an upgrade of kernel 2.6.31 (repo 1443) my nvidia drivers were gone as usual : no big deal, I run equo install nvidia-drivers and ,surprise, kernel 2.6.32 was pulled in as needed dep.

Now I have 2 entries in grub with both kernel 2.6.31 and 2.6.32. Both working except for 2.6.32 with Virtualbox which won't start owing to the supposed lack of "vboxdrv".

I checked with nano /etc/conf.d/modules and all necessary modules are there..

Could someone pls explain what I am not getting in all this double kernel history?

Thank you

Having both kernels in grub is normal. You can edit grub and comment the .31 out or switch .32 to default, or leave it alone your choice.

If you run "equo search virtualbox" you will see the drivers you need are kernel dependent and you will need to install the correct drivers for the .32 kernel, same as your video card, nvidia drivers for a .31 kernel will not work with .32

Not sure why the update did not finish and install the kernel the first time. Same thing happened to me, I lost video and when I re-installed them, pulled in .32
