Compiz Fusion + NvIDIA = Black Windows [Solved]

Postby Psychosis » Tue Aug 07, 2007 4:51

I've downloaded the Sabayon Linux Live-CD, and it seems like a pretty stable distro. Everything worked out of the box except for one thing: Compiz-Fusion with my Geforce 6100 integrated chip.

I have it working perfectly on Ubuntu, due mostly to the fact that their version Compiz Fusion has a --use-copy option.
Is it just the way its compiled or something?

I've emerge'd beryl, but I've grown too used to Compiz to go back. :D

It's annoying that Compiz-Fusion doesn't have a --force-nvidia option on either system, but I can't even use it with AiGLX (I get black windows) or XGL (white cube).

I launch compiz like so on Ubuntu:
export __GL_YIELD="NOTHING"; compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints --use-copy &

Is there any way to enable the --use-copy option in Sabayon?

Hi

Not sure if this will help http://forums.opencompositing.org/viewt ... f=51&t=438

It's about the black window bug straight from the compiz-fusion website.

I haven't read it so I'm not sure if it will help.

I'm surprised you get that. Compiz-fusion works fine with my Geforce 6600

Hope the link helps

All the best

EDIT:

I finally figured out what's going on. this post explains that --use-copy is a hack, and the correct way is to use --indirect-rendering.

Now, the reason Compiz is freezing when it exits was found here.
