How do I obtain the Unsupported Plugins for Beryl?

Postby Espreon » Thu Aug 02, 2007 18:37

How do I obtain them, the unsupported plugins contain features like snow, group and tabbing and so on.
I downloaded them from git and opened the autogen.sh but now what?

All the plugins can be obtained if you add the overlay xeffects and then #emerge --search compiz-
also one have to unmask them in /etc/portage/package.keywords before emerging them.
Please feel free to correct me if i wrote something wrong :D

Oops!
I read your post wrong...thought you meant the unsupported plugins for Compiz-Fusion.
Sorry

Hi

I don't understand what you mean by you "opened the autogen.sh" file ?

Usually what you do to compile is open up a konsole and type the following:
1) ./autogen --prefix=/usr
2) make
3) make install

This should then install the plugins in the .beryl (hidden) folder in your home directory.

If step 3 produces "permission" errors then type "su" and enter root password and then type "make install".

Note: when you download source code there is ususally a README or INSTALL file that tells you how to compile and install the program.

Any reason you are using beryl over compiz? compiz-fusion has loads more plugins than beryl including a cool new one that looks like the Windows Vista flip3d (if you've come across that)

All the best

I know, I used to use Compiz Fusion on Ubuntu and had ALL of those features, but for some reason CF does not work on Sabayon....

That's OK...It might not have been what Espreon wanted, but your post helped me out last night when I was searching around to see if I could emerge the shift plug-in. Thanks :D

And I just pointed him back to this post since it looks like he has compiz-fusion installed now, so you might have helped him out after all.

Actually, I got CF working by looking at the stickied thread that gives solutions to those who have ATI cards. But it is not working again so I still need those unsuppported Beryl Plugins!

Hi

Instead of downloading the plugins from git maybe get the plugin from this page and try to install (Version 0.2.1) http://www.beryl-project.org/releases.php

All the best
