Beryl stopped working

Postby jimbob » Fri Jun 22, 2007 22:40

Beryl no longer runs even though I have changed nothing on my installation. The red diamond appears on the top panel but none of the mouse functions work.

When I try to start it from the command line it tells me that it is unable to open display :0.0 which makes me think that it already has the screen assigned.

The ps command shows the process beryl-manager is running. Is this all that would normally show or is there something else that needs to be started?

This is very common at least for me.
I noticed that in these cases the window manager running is the default one when Beryl crashes.
Honestly I do not know how come it crashes while starting after logging in.
Anyway I right-click on the Beryl icon, open the select window manager submenu and select Beryl.
This way I start Beryl by hand.
If it does not start, probably is the graphic acceleration that is not running:
Menu->Applications->Settings->Acceleration Manager.
Then select AIGLX or XGL Desktop Acceleration.
If it does not work check that OpenGL is working (this is shown on the Acceleration Manager window).
If it is not workong try reinstalling (unmerging, merging again your grephic card drivers).

Bye.
