i3 wm problem

Postby chasha420 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 19:33

Sup guys....I'm a bit too happy with my Openbox so the devil decided to play mind games with me & seduce me towards i3 Lol.

Anyway I looked at i3 webcast...it isn't too bad, although I haven't tried a tiling wm before so not sure if I'd like it...so I decided to give it a try.

After installing x11-wm/i3-4.2, when I log out and try to login using i3 session...it fails & I'm returned to the login prompt.

So I'm wandering what went wrong or did I miss something?

Thanks.

sounds like you need to check .xsession-errors in your home directory

without errors it is impossible to say

Holy balls, I've never seen so much before in a .xsession-errors log file. I've never used i3 and a lot of that stuff in there looks like it points to wine issues.

Lol...that's good....tells me that you're good at this computer stuff

Edit:
A lot of the error messages arose from using partially modified conky & tint2 config files from other people and not really deleting unused/unacounted for functions...also due to wine...Windows app like Spotify doesn't really behave that well with Linux.

Anyway if anyone can spot the error pls let me know, thanks :)

I use i3 and it works fine on Sabayon. The first time you start i3, it should ask you to confirm for the creation of default ~/.i3/config file.
Can you say more precisely what happens when you try to start i3?

Well in my case it doesn't ask for anything...when I select i3 as session and login, it shows me a blank black screen with the mouse cursor being busy...as if loading stuff and then it goes back to the login screen. No error message or nothing visible...as for the error logs I already posted it here.

So anyway, I was just looking to test it...not like I really need it & even if I like it I probably won't use it cos I'm really comfortable with openbox atm.

But if there's a fix or you guys want me to do stuff & post back then feel free to let me know
