Removing Desktops

Postby Johnny Who » Tue Aug 21, 2012 11:49

I have sabayon 9 Gnome installed, and I have filled it with GUIs. I have installed Xfce, Lxde, Openbox, Fluxbox, Cinnamon, Mate. I think that I will be using Mate most of the time. Will I face any problems if I remove Gnome?

Hi,
there shouldn't be any problem, IF you are removing the right packages. The DE's are mostly independent of each other. Unfortunaly I don't know which would be the best way to safely remove the Gnome desktop.

cheers

I'm having the same problem, it's really hard to figure out what packages are connected to what part of a DE.. even harder if you want gnome and kde applications to work and look as they should, after removing the DE itself..

there is some information in the HowTo's section:
http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title ... vironments

But I would find a sticky in this forum section useful.
