Unable to change locale in Gnome [Solved]

Postby wraeth » Wed Aug 01, 2012 12:21

Greetings;

Have recently started using Sabayon/GNOME, and what I have seen so far I have liked. I have an issue, though, that I can't get GNOME to recognize a change in locale.

I have changed /etc/locale.gen (and run locale-gen), changed /etc/env.d/02locale, run env-update, confirmed that /etc/profile.env has the correct locale setting, and rebooted many times throughout, however GNOME seems to be stuck with a locale of 'en_US.utf-8' (note the capitalization).

I can't figure out where GNOME is getting this setting (I know it's GNOME, because if I log in straight to the terminal, it's correct, and if I open a terminal window from GNOME, it's incorrect, then if I source /etc/profile, it gets the right setting).

Can anyone suggest where else I might look to change the locale setting so that GNOME gets the right settings?

Thanks in advance.

You know, any assistance with this would be appreciated... It isn't just a typical 'how do I change locale settings'; I already know how to do this. This is a problem where I have followed the same guide I generally follow from Gentoo, and it has resulted in the display manager pulling a locale setting from somewhere else (like I said, note the capitalisation, it's reading en_US.utf-8 not 'UTF-8')...

Any takers?

I don't use GNOME, so no idea. However, follow all the steps in Re: en_GB language missing after install., obviously changing the 'uk', 'gb' and 'en_GB' to the appropriate values for the locale/keyboard you want.

Thanks for that.

I was hoping for a way that didn't try and force the variables (the system should pick it up automagically, so I was hoping to resolve why it wasn't), but manually forcing the variables through the file /etc/env.d/02locale worked.

Cheers.
