GTK based apps slow? [Solved]

Postby msdobrescu » Tue May 22, 2012 19:54

Hello,

It might be a cohincidence, but I've noticed GTK-based apps becoming slow lately.
I have KDE, no Gnome (I'm a bit scared to install Gnome, last time it started with KDE in parallel) and some GTK libs installed as dependencies.
I mainly use Firefox and EasyTag. They become very slow. EasyTag scans twice when I enter a directory, Firefox does everything slow (might be the plugins as well, but it worked fine before). I can watch Gimp creating a new empty small picture and moving it from the top-left corner to the middle of the Gimp's area. Thebrush remains far behind the mouse pointer. Inkscape takes 5 seconds to maximize its window (with the default empty document).

The CPU is at maximum 36% and the memory at 1.7 GB of 6 GB at most.

Am I alone?

Regards, Mike.

Could you give some more details about your system? What kernel are you using, etc? I had a similar problem after upgrading to kernel 3.3.

Now it seems OK.
At the time I've had 3.3 or 3.4.
The system is i7 920, 6gb ram, nvidia 560Ti, several WD RE of 1TB, Audigy Player, Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5.

If you can boot into something < 3.3, give it a try next time you have problems. I'm just sticking with 3.2 for now.

For me this is not an option.
I use a tv tuner that needs > 3.3.
