Kontact and Google Calendar [Solved]

Postby sedo_5 » Fri Apr 27, 2012 17:31

Hi everyone.
I was unable to find decent information about how to make Kontact (or, more exactly, KOrganizer) work with Google Calendars.
I have to use Google Calendars for some works and I have managed to sync the calendars also with my android device, but I would like to make my Kontact calendar communicate with big G.
I have found more than one tutorial on internet about how to do so (by the way, I am using the upgraded version of kde, now 4.8.2), but none of them worked on my Sabayon system, and I wooul like to know if there's someone out there who has managed to do so.

Since the akonadi arrival, if one wants to add this functionality to Kontact (aka kde-pim) he has to add an akonadi service to do so: as far as I know, libopensync and msynctool must be installed and then a new service should appear in the akonadi configuration panel: then you could add the proper calendar to your Korganizer and even your G's contacts to your Kaddress.
Unfortunatly, that's not my case, I didn't manage to do that.

Please, could you help me to solve this issue? Have you had the same problem and how did you solve it?

Thanks in advance,

Renzo

Thank you for your answer.
I have tried a lot of tutorials like these (and I had already read some of those you suggested), but no success.
The first thing I tried was the CalDAV protocol but there's something that doesn't work (although I've checked all the suggestions and dependencies cited on every tutorial).
Now, since I am using kde 4.8.2, the akonadi method should be preferred for this purpose. however it's not working basically because I have no Akonadi Google Calendar Resource and I cannot find a solution. I have installed with equo every package concerning both google and akonadi, but I cannot find any "akonadi-google" or "akonadi-cal" or similars (I don't know if these plugins are now included into other packages anyway).
Long story short: I wasn't able to do sync to my calendar with any of those tutorials....
I asked this forum because I wanted to know if someone using my same system has managed to do so (I'm starting to think I am missing some package in the repos...)

Any other hints?
Thanks

Renzo

I'm surprised no one else has answered this. The akonadi google calendar resource is not available in the sabayon repositories. I've never been able to get this working although the resource is available for all other distros' I'm using. There is a resource file here "http://packages.gentoo.org/package/kde-misc/akonadi-google" if you fancy a try.

Good luck.

Thanks for your answer!
I saw that package on your link; updating (--sync) portage, "akonadi-google" and "libopensync-plugin-google-calendar" (already installed with equo though) are available.
Anyway, I don't like to work with portage, I prefer remaining safe with equo....but why is that pckg missing on sabayon repository? is there a specific reason? I think it should be included by developers, if it could help to make Kontact sync correctly with google...
Let's hope someone can give me some explanation or some other way to have a somewhat usable google calendar syncing.

Thanks again

Renzo

I can only suggest an alternative, Thunderbird, which I use successfully in syncing gmail calendar & contacts with an android phone.

Thanks cl00t, I had considered this option too, but at the end I decided not to change PIM software.
I want to stick with kontact :)

Thanks :)

File a bug report to have it included in the repository if it's missing.
