equo install to Switch Gnome-3 => Enlightement? [Solved]

Postby gstrock » Fri Feb 03, 2012 19:45

[Solved] I read the wiki, rolled up my sleeves, jumped in
and did what I had to do. Basically this:

> equo install --ask x11-wm/enlightenment:0.17

Did a bunch of other stuff listed in the wiki, like run this
script: ./easy_e17.sh -i, not sure what it did, maybe
I shouldn't have run it, I don't know yet.

The fonts were really tiny, and I discovered I had to check
"Enable Custom Font Classes" in the Settings Panel->Font Settings
control panel before picking a bigger size would stick.

Super light window manager, think Fluxbox that looks very, very nice.
Its even got a task bar on the bottom. I'm one of the few people who liked
Gnome-3 and Unity (on my netbook), but I get bored after a while and like
to try something else. I tried Enlightenment about 10 years ago, but when
I saw Sabayon had an Enlightenment iso, I just had to give it another shot.

I got a ton of error messages like this:
There was an error loading module named: conf_acpibindings/linux-gnu-i486-ver-pre-svn-08/module.so could not be found in the module search directories. Would you like to unload this module?
I googled on that and it seems that is common with E17. The solution
is to click yes and they should go away until the next time you upgrade.

I'm running Gnome-3 but would like
to switch to Enlightenment 17.

Can I just install the necessary packages
or should I start with the Enlightenment iso
and do a fresh install?

Ideally, I would like to add Enlightenment
to the list of sessions at log in time.

I noticed that the Awesome and Enlightenment
iso images have Linux kernel 3.1, while the Gnome-3
and KDE iso images have Linux kernel 3.0. Is there
a reason for that?

I'm real happy with Sabayon. Debian and Debian based distros
used to be my favorite, but now I prefer a Gentoo based distro.
