Context:
-> Sabayon Fully updated (kernel 3.2-r1 and Xorg 1.11.3)
-> KDE desktop
-> Compiz-fusion with direct rendering
-> AMD/Ati HD5570 video card with up-to-date ati-drivers (11.12)
Problem:
Yesterday, I installed the new Xorg from Entropy, and everything worked well until I wanted to view a video using VLC with GPU acceleration. Xorg crashed and restarted (prompting me back to KDM login). Here is the Xorg log
The first thing I've tried is to disable compiz and enable KWin (without any desktop effect) and I can view my videos without problem, but I really hate KWin and I wanted Compiz back, so...
I've tried reinstalling Compiz and Compiz-fusion packages but the problem persisted when enabling compiz.
So, I tried to reinstall ati-drivers and saw this message at the end of installation process:
* If you experience unexplained segmentation faults and kernel crashes
* with this driver and multi-threaded applications such as wine,
* set UseFastTLS in xorg.conf to either 0 or 1, but not 2.
But I don't know where xorg.conf is. Whereis says:
xorg: /usr/lib/xorg /usr/lib64/xorg /usr/include/xorg
Also, i don't know if this will be dangerous or might break something else.
After reinstalling ati-drivers and rebooting the problem persists.
Any ideas??
