You maybe all know the trick but here it is:

editing the .profile file in home folder with

export CLUTTER_VBLANK=none

helped me quite a lot with gnome 3.2 and catalyst 11.12 !

In the case of Gentoo/Sabayon Linux, the ".profile file in home folder" would be ~/.bashrc or ~/.bashrc_profile (see Gentoo Handbook Part 2 Chapter 5).

Might be worth trying the above to see if it makes a difference with GNOME 3 when using the FGLRX (AMD Catalyst 11.11 and 11.12) driver.

Turn each entry to "gallium", especially the r600 one:
(as root)

eselect mesa set r600 gallium


then reboot, I hope this can help you.
