ati + x86_64 + dual monitors = jklfdsahjokp

Postby cmxiv » Sun Dec 11, 2011 8:28

Im having an issue getting my 2 monitors to work. I have Sabayon7 and XFCE as a desktop manager, and have installed the amdcccle [ati config panel].

I have a 1680x1050 and a 1440x900 screen, with the 1050 main and 900 to the right off it. It works on this OS with my laptop, an NVidia card. This machine/card also works fine in Debian XFCE. So I believe it is a ati/sabayon issue. Or, my not knowing how to work sabayon. lol

However, the amdcccle, even when launched with root, crashes when i click 'apply'. No error, nothing. Just stops. I have pondered for years about why. [ok maybe not that long]

Any ideas on how to get amdcccle to play nice, or alternative?

P.S. Graphics driver is up to date, and matching kernel (11.11 on 3.1.0)
and amdcccle is updated accordingly

thanks in advance

Not sure, but you could try deleting the Catalyst driver's database, then create a new one and initialise it:

1. Log out of the DE and wait for the log-in page to be displayed.
2. Press Ctrl-Alt-F1 (or F2, or F3 etc., up to F6) to get to a VT.
3. Log-in as root user.
4. Enter the command /etc/init.d/xdm stop to stop X Windows.
5. Enter the command rm /etc/ati/amdpcsdb to delete the Catalyst driver's database.
6. Enter the command /opt/bin/aticonfig --initial -f to create and initialise the Catalyst driver's database.
7. Enter the command /etc/init.d/xdm restart to restart X Windows.
8. Press Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get to the new log-in window.
9. Log-in to the DE.

Then try again to use amdcccle.
