No new file option when right clicking [Solved]

I have just noticed that since upgrading to KDE 3.5.8 I longer have the option to create a new file when right clicking - even when using the File Manager in su mode.
All I have is the option to create new - link to device
I have re-emerged kdebase-meta and that made no difference
Is it just me or a KDE bug?
Or can this be fixed?

I definitely had the option to create new text file - I am not kidding.
Am I missing a joke here - or is it on me?

urrr, i see screenshots and to be correct, i can't tell more until will do myself the upgrade from kde v3.5.7 to v3.5.8 ... but if is true, kde developers is dreaming ... not you ...

or ... you are in some form of kiosk session?! with some form of file restrictions!? can be, but you know better ..

I upgraded to KDE 3.5.8 a couple of days ago and have just noticed the same problem. When I right-click on the desktop I see, at the top of the menu, Create New. If I click on that I see the menu:

Illustration Document...
Presentation Dcoument...
Spread Sheet Document...
Text Dcoument...
Link to Device

If I click on Link to Device I see a tiny empty menu.

Hmm. Must be configurable somewhere.

After a bit more inverstigate I found that the following menu entries:

Presentation Dcoument...
Spread Sheet Document...
Text Dcoument...

were put there when I installed Kivio, even though I did not install the rest of KOffice. Kivio pulls in the two packages koffice-data and koffice-libs, and it is koffice-data that inserts the above four entries into the Konqueror menu. Which is poor programming, as far as I can see, because I don't have the KOffice word processor, spreadsheet or presentation application installed.

Anyway I un-emerged kivio, koffice-data and koffice-libs and that got rid of the above four entries in the menu, leaving just Link to Device, and that, as before, displays an empty menu.

OK, found the solution!

Seems our Italian colleagues have been having the same trouble:

Anyway, I tried the solution given in the Gentoo Forum post above (re-emerge kdelibs, kdesktop and konqueror) but it didn't change anything. Then I re-emerged kdebase-kioslaves and the missing menu items are back.
