Video refresh rate..

Hi,
I have just installed Sabayon, having moved from Mepis.... I like it! BUT one problem is that I can only get a refresh rate of 50/53Hz. Which most users will know is driving me mad!!! I am using a nVidia FX550 card which is an oldie now, but usually works well.

I can't seem to find the Xconfig file! in the same place as in Mepis. Or do I really know how to alter this, or does someone have a better idea. I would'ent mind buying a new card. I have heard that some types of Linux prefer different brands of card...

Any help or advice, much appreiated..

Nvidia efore 6600 uses the older legacy driver 87.?? , the one running now is default 100.?? and this might be the cause of your bugs.
The guys with the nvidia 8800gts or better will post later and the specific brands they have.
Also check gentoo.org forums / wiki's and our own wiki on top of this page for more info on brands.

Edit : Do not be fooled by Ati or Nvidia as they have the default video cards = *800 models like 6800 / 7800 / 8800 and all others is cloned + underclocked / overclocked versions of this be it in the bios or using hardware resistors. Look at the 8700m laptop video card brand new and a bit better power saving = wow , my junker 7800gtx in my laptop running at 50% power / underclocked can still nuke the 8700m even if 8700m is overclocked.

Don't worry if KDE shows you only 50Hz, it is not correct value. It is known bug or somehting, I am not really sure what is it causing, but it is not real number. I have nVidia 440 and it works fine, I run 21' CRT monitor at 1600x1200@85Hz so you shoud be getting even better numbers as you have never card. It depends on you monitor as well (probably mostly).
