Mac address issue

So the problem that I face is that nm-applet of Network manager defaults to the original mac address of the device...is it possible to change to a cloned mac address at boot time and maintain that ? I know perhaps some script can be coded to use macchanger or ifconfig, etc. and added to startup but I want the opinion of you guys.

Also I dunno why this happens but it seems like the mac address of a specific device gets overwritten every once in a while even while it's been saved in nm-applet...why is that so? Or is it because of upgrades overwriting configs n stuff?
