Connected to wireless network canno access any host

Postby LongJohnSilver » Thu Aug 16, 2012 15:44

Hi! I'm having this problem with my sabayon netbook:
I connect to the wireless network, I get an IP address, but cannot reach internet or any other local host.
No help from dmesg:
....
wlan0: authenticate with .....
wlan0: authenticated
wlan0: associate with ....
wlan0: RX AssocResp from ..... (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=1)
wlan0: associated

I can connect with my wife's notebook; I do not have access to a wired connection here.

Any suggestion?
Thank you

You'll need to provide more information, in order for people to try to diagnose what is happening.

Which edition of SL did you install? Was it from the KDE LiveDVD or the GNOME LiveDVD? If not, which edition did you install? Also, was it the x86 (32-bit) or amd64 (64-bit) version?

What model of netbook are you using? Do you know the precise model of the network card in it (a manufacturer uses different chipsets in different models, so the model number is important too)? What is the model of your router?

If you cannot access the Internet from your netbook, you can copy/paste the console output to a text file and copy the file to a USB pen drive then post it here:

Open a Konsole/Terminal window, log in as root user, and enter the following commands:

uname -a
lspci
lsusb
lsmod
ifconfig
iwconfig
rc-status
equo search networkmanager
cat /var/log/messages | grep -i error

Re: Connected to wireless network canno access any host

Which DE are you using? KDE? GNOME? Xfce? LXDE?...

What is the manufacturer and model of your netbook?

Looks like you have binary data in the /var/log/messages file, so please repeat the command using the --text option:

Code: Select all
cat /var/log/messages | grep -i --text error

Try unloading the acer_wmi module to see if it is interfering. As root user in a Konsole/Terminal window:

Code: Select all
rmmod acer_wmi

If unloading the module alone does not work, try, in addition, restarting networking afterwards:

Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart

If it transpires that the acer_wmi module is indeed the culprit then it can be blacklisted to stop it being loaded in future.
