Network manager applet disappeared [Solved]

Postby msdobrescu » Wed Feb 15, 2012 23:30

Hello,

I've noticed that network manager applet disappeared lately.
How could I get it back?

Thank you.

If you're using KDE, right-click the arrow (or triangle, pyramid if you will) icon of your system tray, left of the clock on your panel, then click System Tray Settings, then select Entries. There, see if Network Management is set to Hidden and if it is, set it to Auto or Always Visible. Apply, OK.

Is it still ticked under System Tray Settings -> Display?
Which desktop environment do you use?
Is net-misc/networkmanager installed (check with equo)?
Does the machine still connect and if so, wired or wireless?

knetworkmanager replaced by "networkmanagement". Install networkmanagement.

Code: Select all
equo install networkmanagement

That change was made months ago and it was done in the update run automatically, it would surprise me if this were the cause. However, can't hurt to check.
msdobrescu, have you kept your system up to date?

Thanks for the replies.
I can't access my computer now.
But I will come with some clarifications.
It runs Sabayon K 7 upgraded fully (probably to 8).
It would be a good idea to reinstall some apps though, they might fix the settings.
Anyway, I have access to network, as I have set it initially to automatically connect using pppoe to the Internet, wired.

So just to get things straight, it's only the applet that's missing, functionality is still intact?

The applet is missing, so I have no more a visual way to manage the network connection.
The network works.

So, the following solved the problem:

Code: Select all
equo install networkmanagement
equo conf update

The Sulphur did not show the networkmanagement package.
