OpenVPN padlock [Solved]

Postby cl00t » Thu Feb 02, 2012 15:24

Hello, in other distros I used to get a padlock appear on the KDE WLAN Interface icon in the tray whenever the VPN was connected, in Sabayon it doesn't appear, although the VPN works properly. Any ideas how to enable it? I cannot see an option anywhere.

Using Sabayon 7 KDE with all updates using stable repo.

Cheers.

Edit:

This is solved after removing knetworkmanager & installing networkmanagement

I have not used OpenVPN but have a couple of thoughts:

NetworkManager changed the way it works when it jumped from version 0.8.x to 0.9.x, including no longer using the KDE Wallet if I understand correctly (see e.g. Ifnet updates for NetworkManager 0.9). I wonder if that is the reason you are no longer seeing a padlock?

Also, I noticed a KDE code change made on 27.11.11 by the KDE developer responsible for the KDE NetworkManagement widget: "Disabling connected notification by default since now VPN connections can use system tray icon to indicate the connection activation succeeded." (see Comment 4 - Bug 268021 - Not shown any info regarding VPN connection establishment). I wonder if that could be the reason you are no longer seeing the padlock?

Hello, thank you for the reply. I used openSUSE previously, a couple of days ago & I got the padlock, in KDE 4.7.4 & then 4.8.
I'm using the same VPN connection & config files, & can't see an option to enable the padlock. I'm not able to check which version of NetworkManager openSUSE used.
I have enabled a notification so I can see if the connection is dropped so that will suffice for now.
Thanks for the informative reply.
