No wireless (ipw2200) on CoreCDx

Postby shedyed » Wed Oct 26, 2011 14:54

I was able to boot into Fluxbox on this live USB run. Here is what I've gathered from the log. I have an IBM Thinkpad X41 laptop w/ stylus.

Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.2.2kmprq
Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation
0000:04:02.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 21
Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
ipw2200-bss.fw request_firmware failed: Reason -2
Unable to load firmware: -2
failed to register network device
0000:04:02.0: PCI INT A disabled
probe of 0000:04:02.0 failed with error -5

Tips would be appreciated.

First of all, it would be worth your while to make sure you have the correct firmware package installed. I can't remember the situation with the Intel IPW2200 WiFi controller and Linux, but you'll either need the package net-wireless/ipw2200-firmware installed, or possibly the package sys-kernel/linux-firmware instead for newer kernels if that package replaces ipw2200-firmware (you'll need to check using e.g. Google). Do you have either of those packages installed?
