Cannot connect to Internet through USB cable [Solved]

Postby BlackNoxis » Sat Sep 10, 2011 14:05

Hello to everyone. As the title suggests : I cannot connect to Internet through a USB cable to my modem.
The situation sounds like this :
I have a modem SmartAX MT882, USB port and a USB cable. When I plug my USB cable into my laptop (the USB cable is on the other side connected to my modem) it tells me a new ethX appeared, it is named eth1 because the eth0 is ethernet port.

When I try to configure with ifconfig or dhcpcd eth1, no internet comes up. I have no connection or some sort. I've compiled my kernel with genkernel and set up all USB mass storage support and all other USB networking support modules, even the RNDIS.

Another information would be that when I unplug and plug the device (the USB cable), the USB viewer tells me that a certain RNDIS_Host comes up. Personally I'm not a amateur Gentoo / Sabayon user, but when I saw that rnds_host and all of the USB cable's info, I didn't know exactly what could it be, so I searched Gentoo rndis_host and I found this http://www.danielmorlock.de/2011/usb-te ... nogenmod7/

It may be exactly what I need, except ... I don't have any usb0. I have all the modules I need, but still, I do not know how to make it right. Any help would be appreciated :D Thank you

http://pastebin.sabayon.org/pastie/7037 <-- Direct hit
http://pastebin.sabayon.org/pastie/7039 <-- Anyone got my ebuilds to satisfy "~app-pda/synce-librtfcomp-1.1 ?

And the bomb :

http://pastebin.sabayon.org/pastie/7040 <-- where's my module.symvers ?
The answer : it's already there
And this is how my dmesg looks like

If anyone knows any other solutions, I would be thankful :)

One more information / conclusion I have after observing how the usb port of the modem blinks : before the system fully boots and if udev is not booting, the USB port light of the modem is continuosly on. After udev is fully started (controlled by myself with interactive boot), the usb port light simply turns off. If I set dhcpcd eth1 (eth1 is booted when I plug-in the USB cable connected to the modem, into the laptop), the usb light sometimes blinks.

So, I presume that if the light is continuosly on before udev is started, than udev recognizes the connection between the modem and laptop with the USB cable and it keeps it on until ... (something bad happens) ... the connection is fully lost after the udev does its job.

This is almost all information I can get about this. Still no response from no one ? :))

After the recent talks on the Live Chat I've decided to temporary suspend this issue. The modem I have (SmartAX MT882) hasn't developed any USB Linux driver ever since 2005 (where they gave just one driver CDC_ether for the 2.4 kernels). There is no new driver or any solution to this issue right now, but I'll bomb the Huawei Corps with some mails to convince them to make a Linux USB driver. Therefore, anyone who has this issue, I'm deeply sorry for you xD and me.

Best regards specially for micia, joost, radtoo and DHalens,

Thanks guys :D
