NetworkManager empty my resolv.conf. [Solved]

Postby vladder » Tue Sep 06, 2011 12:45

Hi all,
Yesterday Sabayon had a lot updates, including networkmanager.
After of update I reboot my laptop, and then I haven't internet. Although networkmanager run ok, it empty my resolv.conf file anf is not possible get an ip and so browse.
I have looked for a solution, but I got to fix it.
If i put it my dns servers in resolv.conf, after reboot the laptop networkmanager overrides again the file...

Thanks in advance.

NetworkManager is supposed to do that. I never touch /etc/resolv.conf; NetworkManager edits it automatically:

Code: Select all
$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 212.77.192.59
nameserver 212.77.192.60

Well, I think I've found a "solution" to the problem.
I still do not know the reason why my resolv.conf is empty when starting my laptop, but using the command

Code: Select all
sudo chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf

prevents definitely change, which, in principle, the problem is solved, although not the best solution.
I had thought to replace networkmanager wicd (I always liked more), but in recent versions NM works really well and I do not want to leave the system whith some installed units.

Regards.
