Wired connection not available Sabayon 6 KDE

Postby Ariya » Sat Aug 27, 2011 19:56

In manage connections wired is grayed out.

# ifconfig gives the following;

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:34 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:34 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:2020 (1.9 KiB) TX bytes:2020 (1.9 KiB)

wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr c4:46:19:6b:32:27
inet addr:192.168.0.101 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::c646:19ff:fe6b:3227/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:1556 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:1606 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:941829 (919.7 KiB) TX bytes:292707 (285.8 KiB)

and,

# ethtool -i eth0
bash: ethtool: command not found

# ifconfig eth0
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

eth0 works with all other distros in the laptop.

# uname -a
Linux sabayon 2.6.39-sabayon #1 SMP Wed Jun 15 22:52:37 UTC 2011 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @ 2.27GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Can you help? Might need wired connection sometime, where wifi is not around. Wifi works well.

Thanks!

What is your hardware? Post the output of the following commands, issued as root user in a Konsole/Terminal window:

Code: Select all
lspci
lsusb
lsmod
dmesg
cat /var/log/messages | grep -i error
