Sabayon Linux will not detect my Wired Network card?[Solved]

This is on my desktop, and I would have thought that Intel i3 desktops were popular enough to be included in the kernel modules, but on the LiveCD, I can't use ipconfig, iwconfig, nor ifconfig because it says the command does not exist. I am booting off of the USB. Sabayon Linux looks so pretty too, the command line looks amazing and alluring, very good learning material, but I've NEVER had problems with networking on other distributions. I also can't use modprobe because it says that the command doesn't exist, yet I can read the manual pages "man iwconfig" or "man modprobe" perfectly fine. I have the AMD64_G.iso file from one of the mirrors. Did I get a bad iso? If so, can someone point me to the GNOME2.x *Has to be GNOME2.x* 64-bit that works? I'm very tempted to use Sabayon, as I said, it looks beautiful, but... It kind of has me on edge on whether or not I should risk installing it or not.

Please offer me a solution to this, and please don't say the only solution is to use a LiveDVD I don't have one as of yet, and I was planning on install everything tonight or tomorrow. *Sad Panda*

If lspci does not list your Ethernet controller then you can find out by looking at the specification section of the owners manual for your motherboard that would have come with the computer

Believe me, you don't want to risk installing it. I presume you have Sabayon Gnome 5.5. There are about 1000 updates by now and at the end of the update, your system will crash - just look at the other threads! In a week or two at the most, Sabayon 6 would be out and you don't want to miss that! They have come a long way and done a great job since 5.5. Patience my friend, patience.

This was from the Ubuntu I have on my machine. Do you require me to do it from Sabayon? If so, I wouldn't have any way of posting it here since I wouldn't access to a network.

Will it be GNOME3? If so, I'll have to pass, I want to use Sabayon because it's GNOME2.3.x and GNOME3 is not my cup of tea... I've had quite a bit of problems in a virtual machine forcing me to reinstall. I suppose it's best to wait until after it became more stable? Still, I want to try it now without risking too much.

*Facepalm* I forgot that you don't start off as Root like on Arch... I suppose I could try that, but even if I wasn't root, wouldn't it tell me to run it as root instead of telling me the commands don't exist? If I could take a screen shot, I would, but there's no way of sending it. Unless I use a spare USB drive to download it on, and I don't think SSH would work if it's not up on the network.

no it wouldnt, it wont be in your PATH as a user, sabayon 6 will be gnome 2.3.x (http://lxnay.wordpress.com/2011/05/11/s ... ut-to-come)

Not this time, but if you ever have to you could always mount another partition and save the output to that partition or even to the live usb drive

I think I know what the problem is *Someone else used the same method and had similar problems* and it seems that UNetBootIn or booting off the USB in general messes things up. The other person also used a DVD to boot off and they got it working perfectly. I just need to go out and buy a DVD. I've decided though, all of the problems I have are fixed in the VirtualBox and it looks amazing, it runs amazingly, and it has applications by default which are awesome and some I've never heard before. It's a whole new experience and it doesn't seem too unstable. When I get a blank DVD, I will delete Ubuntu, restore Windows to the MBR since it will get rid of GRUB2, and then do it the safe way by either shrinking the partition in Windows or Sabayon *After defragging* and I'll have a fully-working 64-bit OS with Compiz Fusion and Emerald.
