Is this not in entropy? need it for the new laptop. I can just emerge it. Just wondering... on latest 5.3 and it is great as always.

If you have a Intel Wifi Link 6000, then you need net-wireless/iwl6000-ucode.
to check which one you have:

dmesg | grep WiFi
[ 25.633582] iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux, in-tree:
[ 25.633899] iwlagn 0000:03:00.0: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 6000 Series 2x2 AGN REV=0x74

then
emerge -av net-wireless/iwl6000-ucode
and a reboot..
works great now
