Wicd at startup

Hi, I just installed Sabayon 5.1 KDE and I'm very happy with it.
It's my first time with a Gentoo based distro.
I'm in linux since 2002 so I'm not a noob, but always can learn some new things I didn't know.

I've installed, and updated Sabayon, added some new applications like Inkscape and The Gimp and all my hardware works perfectly.

The only 'issue' is that Wicd crashes when I start my session and I don't have wireless hardware. I have a desktop PC.

How would be the right steps to disable wicd or any services?
Maybe taking away execution permission on the right /etc/init.d scripts?
I don't want to want to break my new system

Hi, welcome to Sabayon forums

I think that it would be better not to change permissions over the system, this is always a source of major pain sooner or later, at least in my experience.

Just open up a console, use su to become root, and run this command:

rc-update del wicd default


then remove wicd-client from the application autostart.

If you don't use wicd, you could also want to entirely remove it with:

equo remove --ask --deep wicd


(--deep is to remove the config files too)

The "Gentoo way" of disabling services is using rc-update.
