unable to configure wireless internet

I am a newbie to Sabayon/Gentoo. I have installed Sabayon on my acer aspire 5100 laptop. But I am unable to configure my Broadcom Wireless connection. When I try to configure it using knetworkmanager, it hangs. When I give the command knetworkmanager as root, cursor keeps blinking and nothing happens. I do not get back the command prompt even when I press ctrl+c. Even if I start 'top' and try to kill knetworkmanager, it doesn't work out. I am unable to kill the process even using killall -TERM knetworkmanager.
When I tried to modprobe ndiswrapper using the following command -

#modprobe ndiswrapper

nothing happens, I don't get back the command prompt.
"Ctrl+c" doesn't seem to be working most of the time. It doesn't kill most of the run away programs.
Any idea what could be the problem?

It's not a bad sign if you modprobe ndiswrapper and you get sent back to the command prompt. That means that the module was loaded successfully.

Check lsmod and see if ndiswrapper is listed there.

Also check ipconfig and iwfconfig and post the output here.

Have you tried using net-setup (aka the old ncurses way)?

Actually, that is exactly what I was trying to say.
No matter what command I give at the command prompt, the process just hangs, and I am unable to get the command prompt even by pressing ctrl+c. Even if I fire up a new terminal and start 'top', the processes are listed as running and I am unable to kill them even from 'top'.

did you verify the burn of the dvd and burn at low speed?

no I didn't. Mainly because I don't know how to. I am basically a newbie, who has just started dabbling with Sabayon. I hope you can help me out.

Hi,
The wireless network is working. Instead of trying to configure it using knetworkmanager or kwifimanager, I used net-setup, and the connection got through.
I think that something is wrong with knetworkmanager and kwifimanager. But the problem is net-setup is not storing the settings I have entered. I have to re-enter the settings each time I reboot.

you may want to set up your connection through wpa-supplicant.
