need help setting up internet sorry im a linux noob

how are you guys sorry im a bit of a noob when it comes to linux i just installed sybayon on my laptop a hp compaq nc6000 and need help setting up the internet and networking with xp computers but the internet is the main thing i want to get going any help would be muchly appreciated

You want to setup wifi correct? If the icon isn't there the alt-f2 and enter in knetworkmanager in kde or nm-applet in gnome. Also do you happen to know your wireless card in case it doesn't work?
