Broadcom bcm4312 not working

I have installed the windows driver for my card using ndiswrapper, but there is no eth1 or wlan device, any ideas?

Did you unload the ieeesoftmac and bcm43xx etc etc like in the "before 3.4e ipw3945 + bcm43xx" sticky I posted ?
Someone posted at the end in which order to unload them.

There is also the rc-update and other stuff to get it working.

By default the 3.4e and later versions work with bcm43xx type cards and right clicking knetworkmanager net to time top right of the screen + select wifi + add wep / wpa /wpa2 as is needed will get you connected. This works 99% of the time.

Check for strong signal with weak noise levels to get a propper connection as well.
28% lockup = wep /wpa / encryption , 80% = dhcp , 0% = bad noise levels blocking signal. or something like this.

I have exactly the same problem as kanonk: my wireless card is not recognized by Sabayon 1.1 Professional, and attempts to use ndiswrapper with the driver that comes with Vista fail in exactly the same way as his: see kanonk's two posts (one showing a part of his dmesg, another one showing how he was installing the Windows driver bcmwl6 using ndiswrapper).

lsmod doesn't show any of these two modules loaded in the first place.


I tried also to install bcmwl5 using ndiswrapper; the same result: ndiswrapper doesn't complain when I issue `ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf' in the directory containing all the necessary files, `ndiswrapper -l' has the same output as for bcmwl6 (with bcmwl6 replaced by bcmwl5), but later, after `modprobe ndiswrapper', iwconfig shows no wireless devices present.


Has anybody paid any attention to the output of `ndiswrapper -l' in kanonk's original post:

What ``alternate driver: ssb'' is doing there? Can it have something to do with this problem?

Also, can anybody explain the ndiswrapper errors in kanonk's dmesg?


No wireless working under Sabayon after a week of struggle. This is terribly frustrating (and I am not a total beginner, I have been using UNIX/Linux for more than 20 years).

What to do?

At the place where I am the only access to Internet for laptops is via a wireless network.

Not sure where the ssb comes from as alternative but could be a firmware one and if it is it should show someting in lsmod.
Vista = shredded my 5 coppies just a few days after I tried it several months ago as no one wanted to take it even with money being overed to take it and a keg of real good beer.

The windows drivers I used was from xp pro sp2 or compatible with this and worked for me iin pre PE versions / other linux distro's.
I have the dell 1390 / bcm4311mcg now as I type this but have not yet downloaded PE = internet here is slow waiting for decent something to be installed .

Try these ones that worked for me for bcm4311mcg / Dell 1390 , you will need all of them likely and from xp pro sp2 32bit so should work instead of Vista ones.

Also first uninstall the other drivers from ndiswrapper just in case after downloading the linked ones then install linked ones.
Will try to upload some other ones.

For the bcm4312 no idea what works for it but default ones in link might / generic ones from Dell.

I downloaded all the files from the link provided in your most recent post, and placed them in a separate directory; then I changed to that directory and, after checking that the `ndiswrapper -l' output didn't show any drivers installed, I installed bcmwl5 with ndiswrapper in the standard way (ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf). No errors reported and `ndiswrapper -l' produced afterwards the following output:

bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4311) present (alternate driver: ssb)

Then I loaded the ndiswrapper module into the kernel; /var/log/messages reported that event--apparently everything was all right, but `iwconfig' still kept showing no wireless devices nevertheless, so the problem persists.

Either bcmwl5 is not the right driver for `rev 02' of the Broadcom BCM94311MCG wireless card, or something prevents ndiswrapper from making the card visible.

Darn.
Might try some of the links on the "before 3.4e ipw3945 ..." sticky in networking as it uses the old text type config to get it started maybe there is something that could help.
Should be one of the gentoo links likely.

It should at least show someting wifi in net-setup or using ifconfig wlan0 up or ifconfig eth0 up provided eth0 is not lan on pc or similar.
Busy downloading the PE versions so should have it by this time next week or before and will try and find what I could.
