I am trying to get my wireless networking to work but am having some issues.

After completing the configuration (see below) I get a status window with the following information:

Activating Wireless Network Connection [SSID (eth0)]
Activating Stage: Configuring Device
Progress bar starts and stays at: 28%

Then after about 1-1.5 min I get the following message:
"Connection Failure: Could not connect to the network [SSID]

Here is my configuration:

Enter ESSID: xxxxx (confirmed)
Device: Broadcom Corporation BCM4309 802.11a/b/g (eth0)
Use Encryption: Checked
Encryption: WPA Personal (confirmed)
Password: Confirmed
Advanced Settings:
WPA Version: WPA 1 (Confirmed)
WPA Protocol: TKIP (Confirmed - also tried auto)

I have also disabled my Wireless MAC filter list to aid in troubleshooting, restarted the Wireless router and re-created a profile on a windows box to confirm my info is all correct)

I am running a Dell Precision M60 with integrated Wireless.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome.

Well, I do reach 57% but the same stuff happens afterwards.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 with Dell TrueMobile 1400 inside.
I have just installed Sabayon 3.4e. The card has been recognized, the networks show up... however the connection could not be established.

I am new to linux and transiting from Windows, so please, some patience.

In the wifi router turn the wep /wpa off and then try again as it seems the wep / wpa interferes with the wifi card and then writes a bad file or something to the installed on hd so next time even with wpa / wep off it does not connect , seems it reduces the distance or sets something in the wifi card to near useless for weak signals / distance of signal.
Just happened to me in 3.4F and I turned wpa on in the router = bummed out = reinstall with working wifi from live dvd and all is well.

I am not turning wpa /wep on again until I have updated wpa

The live cd /dvd should connect with pc / laptop in same place.

There should be a fixed wpa suplicant or wpa something in portage.

I'm having the same problem, but with an Intel 4965AGN. Unfortunately, I can't change the router settings since I'm at school.

Is there a fix for this yet?

If you can not change the router then only thing is to move closer to the router /move around a bit to get better signal as it works but not at normal "windoes" or "windoesnot XP" distance if WPA / wep is enabled.
Could be that the older 3.4loop SL versions had a working WPA thing that was not as temperamental not sure will check.

I used to disable knetworkmanager and only do net-setup to get it working or net-setup + ndiswrapper and it helped a bit more but not much.

I use kwifi and then set it to alternative strenght to give me a accurate reading as anythig then above 4 signal strenght should be able to connect and or at least open webpages.
Using external antenna also helps but not all laptops can work with this.

A fix that could work is to get on the internet somehow and then install dhclient v3.0.4 and ndiswrapper + completely getting rid of wpa_supplicant , not sure if it would work like this in SL.
See lsmod from pclinux livecd below maybe can make yours to similar + unload all the fancy stuff wpa / bcm / ieeesoft something etc.

Unload using:
rmmod wpa_suplicant
or
modprobe -r wpa_suplicant
modprobe -r bcm43xx
etc etc .

Might have to blacklist above modules if using ndiswrapper + dhclient or similar after testing if it works.

It works in pclinuxos2007 livecd so why not in SL ? at the same distance as windows and SL , but SL = no go for wap connect.

I have installed the Sabayon 3.4f (instead of 3.4e - see my previous post above) and the card is working like a charm. I did not have to do anything.
Well, during the installation, I have chosen not to activate at boot the eth0 (my network card) but only the wireless (eth1). Maybe this did the trick. I know that I needed to do the same in opensuse to get my wireless working.

Going to explore sabayon a bit more now.

Update 1:
After rebooting the computer (just after writing the previous part of this message), KNetworkManager ceased to work, stopping at the magical 28% and delivering the error (see above). Now, after several try and errors, I have got it back on by switching off the eth0 (which - I do not know why and how - got activated during the boot). Now, KNetworkManager connects without problems again...

Update 2:
Another reboot... and the KNetworkManager does not connect anymore... I am getting more and more frustrated... Ndiswrapper time: I install the BCMWL5a.inf, modprobe ndiswrapper, dhcpcd eth1... Internet works again... Now, how the hell do I:
- deactive the eth0 at boot-up
- set up the dhcpcd during the boot.
I am kind of missing the easiness of Yast of opensuse in Sabayon...
