n00b needs help understanding somthing in ndiswrapper

hey guys, quite a n00b still, and screwing with ndiswrapper to get my broadcom wireless set up. my question is, according to many websites i have read my driver should be an inf file, but the one i grabbed is an exe. is this normal? should i ignore the exe and just type inf in the command? any help would be great. like is said im sure this is dumb, but i figure this is the best place to turn. thanks a lot in advance, and glad to be a member of the community

The .INF file will be contained within the .exe. You can use wine to extract the files e.g. 'wine nameofexe.exe' this will extract the files to somewhere in (dependant on the make up of exe) /home/yourusername/.wine/drive_c , if you have wine installed of course.

The driver might be extracted to a folder or installed right into /home...drive_c/windows/system32, you'll have to search around for them but it shouldn't be too difficult to find.

alternatively if you have the drivers installed already in windows, just search for the INF file you are looking for and use that.

Not necessary to use wine

unzip

will extract .exe files. See man unzip.
