Some programs work, some doesn't...

Hi all
Just installed SL 3.4e with all standard (exept that I choose the second option (that was standard unchecked)whilst the installation (and I choose also NFS))options but now I can't launch different programs.

Example;
I can play games etcetera but when I try to launch Konsole or Portato and all those kind of apps, it will load but not shown.
What can be the problem?

Also:
I can't boot Ubuntu up, whilst I clearly not tampered with both boot as swap partition
