Partitioned with gparted, now vista is screwed/Installer

Postby cddrummergo » Sun Jul 22, 2007 4:47

I did just what the posts said not to, I respaced the drive with the live disk gpart, and vista is now screwed. Won't boot just hangs.
Only I didn't know you had to use vistas disk manager until I got the no booting vista and looked it up here. The installer shouldn't let you do that!!! Using Live CD ver 3.3 from ISO

Top that off with the live disk working, but the actual install just hanging and not loading the sabayon,
I'm screwed.

Is there a way to recover that vista partition,
Or is there a way to get my files off of what is now showing up as a fs3 file system instead of NTFS

Please I need help!

If it is a windows ntfs partition SL / Sabayon live cd / dvd should write / read to and from it.

Gparted is not to be used to partition Vista partitions only vista partition thingy + resize then use the free space for Linux.

Sry you had to find out the hard way. Not sure if the vista cd / dvd will fix it / repair.

UBCD is a good cd with tons of hd software on it to do stuff like this just not sure if it would help in your case.
Someone else might have a fix for this that you can try. Hang in there.

I just put the drive in my other machine and took off all of the important files and burned them to a disk.

Awaiting HP's recovery disks. To reinstall VISTA. I will probably try to reinstall Sabayon, once I get vista up again.

Thanks for the tip about UBCD, it actually let me see that the files were still there in NTFS. I will keep that for the future! :!:
