Loop3a loading stalls on AMD system

I'm putting together a system for a friend's father consisting of an AMD 386 processor and ATI AllInWonder 9600. Motherboard is KR7A-RAID.
512MB Ram 123GB IDE

Sabayon 3.3 and Fedora 7 run on this machine

The boot stalls after init and all that, about 2/3 of the
"Booting Sabayon Linux" thermometer

try the cheat codes. I suggest starting with "noapic".
