Sabayon boots to bash prompt, not desktop (Radeon 9000)

Postby SilentRob » Tue Jun 05, 2007 6:53

Hi there. I've seen this problem floating around here, but the solutions I've heard are not working for me. I have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S206 notebook computer with a Radeon 9000 64 MB IGP. When I boot up the machine, I cannot access any desktop manager.

Both the LiveDVD and the installed OS (installed via the text-based installer, of course) cannot boot into the desktop. I've tried executing "lspci" but I see "~bash: lspci: command not found". I've heard about hitting F5 and entering "xdriver=ati" before the machine boots, but at no point in the sequence does the machine respond to hitting F5.

Any ideas? I'll provide you with any other info you need if you ask!

My most humble thanks to you! I hadn't considered that the F5 suggestion is supposed to be followed when booting the LiveDVD. You've been a great help, and I apologize for asking a question that already had a posted answer.

Also note the lspci has to be run as root. Many commands are not available to a normal user, as a security feature. Type su, hit return, then type the root password. Then enter the command, lspci.
