[LiveCD 3.26] DVD can't find cdrom so it won't work

Well, I just tried to install 3.26 on an older Compaq Laptop. 2003 model, P4 2.8GHz w/ 80GB 7200 RPM Hitachi Travelstar I just put in. The DVD boots, I can select any of the install options, then it just says can't find source........Sucks, I am having issues with installing it on my main desktop also! Different problem, equally frustrating. Sabayon is drop dead gorgeous and I want it...........I just can't have it
3.1 gave me no trouble in either system, maybe I'll just go back to that.

i guess you can also use 3.2 since you have the same problem.

What if I install 3.2 and after that try to install 3.26...Do you think that it will recognize my drive?

It works.

I've installes SL 3.26 on a vmware machine, then i mirrored this fresh install on an nfs server.
Boot from miniE. mounting all the stuff , coping data on disck.

There are some manual changhes to do, like coping xorg.cof from the miniE and fix some grub parameters.

It works !!! everithing !!

this appears to be a kernal problem , the one of my boxes that wont boot sabayon 3.25 0r 3.26 also wont boot ubuntu feisty herd2 . which also uses a 2.6.19 kernal. taking a hint from another thread I installed a SATA dvd drive , both sabayon and ubuntu feisty now boot ok with that drive . I have sabayon 3.26 installing now on that box. I sure hope they clear this up soon . We may be getting some "converts" when Vista breaks most of the existing pc's out there
and we don't need to givr them a bad first taste of Linux.99% of cd/dvd drives out there are ide and to not have them useable as install drives is absurd. we could really shoot ourselves in the foot with this one. I will post this to some other threads about the same problem.

Hello all - I'm a totally new to Sabayon. I have been a Mandrake/Mandriva user for 4 years and have grown tired of the instablity of each new release. So I am trying openSUSE and Sabayon (well, I want to try it!). I am posting on this thread because it appears I am having the identical problem. I am not new to computers but consider myself fairly new to digging into linux. I have no problem running X well on a dual monitor setup, I have three tivos and four computers on my home network, I multi-boot Mandriva 2006, 2007 and openSuse and want to add Sabayon. All this hoping to lead me to a stable, configurable, multi-user, full function computer network system. It looks like a lot of your users are very pleased and loyal to Sabayon, but I am unable to get it going at all.

More Details on the machine in question:
New bittorrent d/l of SabayonLinux-x86_64-3.26.iso - md5 checked and all ok
DFI Lanparty 875pt, P4 640j cpu = i686 SMP E64MT, 3.2ghz o/c'd to 3.84ghz
dual channel geil 1gb (2x512),BFG nvidia 6600 agp oc/gt card, 2x sata hd's, 1 ide hd, 1 toshiba dvdrw, 2x dell 1905fp monitors.

The dvd drive has the latest firmware available and mandriva 2006/2007, opensuse and knoppix all boot and run just fine on this drive.

DVD boots OK, when I select, live boot, gui install or text install - all have the same result:

I noticed right away that my ide hard drive and ide dvdrw are not listed in the "Attemping" list.
Entering /dev/hdd (my dvdrw) at the boot:: prompt doesn't work either. It does seem that the sata driver or kernel is blocking ide access. Anyone have any work-arounds other than buying an sata dvdrom?

sorry didnt read the whole thread. Had this problem then i read somewhere about older drives not working on the latest drivers. So i read the dates on three differnt ones ranging from 2002 to 2005 pnly 05 manufactured date drive worked.

they were all top line memorex not cheesy memorex dvd models.

I have been searching the web for two days in regards to this issue. With as many people as there are that are having this exact same problem, there aren't any solutions coming forward. Lots of discussion about this in several different distro's boards...

Does anyone know if there's going to be a fix for this or do I need to just wait on 3.27 to try out Sabayon? For that matter, will 3.27 be addressing this issue?

I'm a bit disappointed really. It worked nicely on my six year old laptop and but won't work on PC that just turned two in November '06. My drivers seem to be up to date so I have no clue what else to try.
