Black Screen [Solved]

Postby guru_iyer » Wed Oct 17, 2012 2:46

I am trying to install Sabayon 10 on my PC. I completed zero-filling my drive. I inserted Sabayon 10 CoreCDX Live CD and booted from it, it initially shows a menu with options like "Graphical Installation, Text Installation, etc".
But when i select any option, all I get is a Black screen for infinite time.
The same CD works fine on my laptop.

My PC configuration:
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600, 2GB RAM, ATi Radeon HD 5770 GGraphics, 250GB Seagate HD.

If required I may post a video for you..!!

Try pressing F5 when you get to the LiveCD/DVD boot menu, and append the kernel boot parameter xdriver=radeon to the end of the kernel boot line. If that doesn't work, try xdriver=ati instead. And if that doesn't work either, try xdriver=vesa (you can switch to an ATI driver after installation).

After F5, i had no way to set the xdriver parameter. I tried the NOAPIC kernel switch, which was available in F5 menu, that solved the problem.
Thanks..

Good to know you got it to boot. For future information, you could have pressed the Esc key to make that little pop-up menu disappear at the LiveDVD boot menu so that you could enter other kernel boot parameters.
