Can't log in after dvd install of Sabayon 7 Xfce

Postby gp18 » Tue Dec 06, 2011 5:06

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 which I have been running Sabayon 5.3 GENOME on since this past May. Since the new GENOME 3 took a hard left turn and wound up somewhere past Jupiter, I decided I wanted to go with the Xfce version. I downloaded it, checked the md5 sum, and burned it at the slowest setting. The install seemed to go smoothly, but as soon as I reboot to the newly installed system I am unable to log in as either my user name or root. I have done this install 3 or 4 times now, always taking care to get my passwords correct, but get the same result every time. Anyone else have this problem?

Oh, I forgot to mention, I am not formatting my /home partition in order to keep my existing data. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I have reinstalled 5.3 the same way and not had the problem.

Didn't have this problem, but try to start safemode of Sabayon, then try change password for user.
If you cannot, run live Sab, chroot to your install Sab and change passwords.

Couldn't get past the 2nd step of the chroot how to.

My /boot partition is sda1. I was able to mount that no problem.
I then have an extended partition with /home, /, and swap in that order. Root should then be sda6, no? When I try to mount that I get
mount: special device /dev/sda6 does not exist

What am I doing wrong?

Check which partition is your root partition.
Code: Select all
#blkid
or in some partitioning program like gparted.
Mount partition and check manually if you cant recognize partition in this way.

That command didn't return anything. Never mind. As much as I don't care for the look and feel of kde, I went that route. At least I can log in now.
