Sabayon_Linux_6_amd64_K works partially

Postby roelof » Sat Sep 10, 2011 15:48

Hello,

I downloaded this dvd and burned it.
After that I choose for booting te livedvd.
The last thinbg i see is picture 6 of the visual kde tour.
After that I see a empty screen with a cursor and not picture 7 of the same tour.

Even waiting for a few minutes changes nothing.

My system : AMD64 K8 processor, 1G memory and a Nvidia Geforce 7300 LE graphical card.

Anyone a idea ?

weird, should have no problems with that card on live or installed, it uses the latest drivers.
At the blinking cursor, ctrl alt f1 and should get a login prompt, login as root and hit enter for blank password.
Code: Select all
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
X is a big x
This should give you some error message as to why x did not start ... you could try booting with a cheat code, add xdriver=vesa at the end of the kernel boot line when you boot the live disk, force it to use a generic driver to install with and fixit after installed.

Butt, that card should just work with no help needed. Makes me wonder if you have a bad download or burn.

hello,

I tried the first suggestion and find only one error in the Xorg.0.log.
I see this error message :
Code: Select all
Nvidia : failed to load module "dri2" (module does not exist, 0)

I will now ty the cheat code and report back if that worked.

Hello,

When I put xdriver=vesa on the kernel line It does not work also.
I find then this error messages in Xorg.0.log
Code: Select all
module ABI major version (8) does not match the server's versions (10)

Failed to load module "vesa" (module requirement mismatch, 0)

Hello,

I tried that one but still no luck.
Now I find this error message in Xorg.0.log.
Code: Select all
nv:  the pci device 0x10de01d1 (Geforce 7300 LE) at 01@00:00:0 has a kernel module claiming it.
nv : this driver cannot operate until it has been unloaded.
No devices detected.

I wonder if the nouveau driver could be the culprit? I'm no expert in NVIDIA GPUs, but you could try appending the following to the kernel boot line by pressing F5 at the LiveDVD menu:

Code: Select all
xdriver=nv rdblacklist=nouveau nouveau.modeset=0

The idea is to stop the open-source nouveau module (driver) loading and instead to load the open-source nv driver.

Try just:
Code: Select all
nouveau.modeset=0

Hello,

I see then no errors anymore in the Xorg.0.log but also no kdm screen.
When I kill the old one and start a new one I see a screen that KDE is starting up but the last entry where you see the kde logo is never reached.

Edit : Can I be that 1G memory is too small for a graphical installation.
