if Fitzcarraldo's advice or links don't help you to solve it, then i would consider looking at all your relevant settings and files in sabayon, and make a note of them. the compiz settings, any desktop graphics, your current driver version, and so on.

then open a terminal and switch to root:
su

enter command:
nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

you can check some of the settings Fitzcarraldo posted. i would also copy everything in this file and print it out or save it somewhere.

to exit the file press:
Ctrl x

and then press:
y

and then press:
enter

now if you still dont have a positive result, i would consider installing fedora 14 again, and make your compiz work. then check all the settings, opengl driver version, and the xorg file and compare it to all your sabayon notes. when you find the difference try to apply it to the sabayon install.

hopefully you have enough disk space and a free partition to run the fedora install, if not you should be a pro at installing both systems by now  . . .

Hi skullfire.

In Fedora Linux, the xorg.conf file dont exist, because use xserver.

For this the compiz work without problem. I try with ubuntu.

Also try with Indirect Rendering and Loose Binding unticked in the Fusion-Icon options, which you can edit from the command line as they are in the file ~/.config/compiz/fusion-icon

Here are the contents of mine:

Code: Select all
[compiz options]
indirect rendering = false
loose binding = false

[window manager]
active wm = compiz

If using KDE you can switch off Compiz by changing the file contents to:

Code: Select all
[compiz options]
indirect rendering = false
loose binding = false

[window manager]
active wm = kwin

If using GNOME you can switch off Compiz by changing the file contents to:

Code: Select all
[compiz options]
indirect rendering = false
loose binding = false

[window manager]
active wm = metacity

Some additional information from the Compiz Wiki for ATI GPUs using the open-source Radeon driver: http://wiki.compiz.org/ATI%20with%20AIGLX

Hi Fitzcarraldo.

Sorry for not answer, I was busy for my job, I was searching the fusion-icon file but don't found and I don't know what file add these line command.

I'm interested in these solution because in my Sabayon 64 bits, I have the Loose binding disable, for problems with the Firefox.

You do have fusion-icon installed, I take it?

Code: Select all
# eix fusion-icon
[I] x11-apps/fusion-icon
     Available versions:  (~)0.1-r1 {gtk qt4}
     Installed versions:  0.1-r1(18:47:59 13/02/11)(gtk -qt4)

It took me a long time to find the solution:

1.- First install sabayon en mode VESA.
2.- Update the gcc to version 4.5.2 and after update all the system and restart.
3.- When restart, press ctrl+e, delete xdriver=vesa and add "kernel options radeon.modeset=1"
4.- The system charge until the screen blue by error en xorg.conf and join in console mode as root user.
5.- Modify the archive /etc/X11/xorg.conf, changing xdriver=vesa to "xdriver=radeon".
6.- Modify the archive /boot/grub/grub.cfg and repeat the step 3.
