See my post entitled "Installation and multiple software RAID arrays"

I have found an entirely duplicatable scenario. Was able to use a workaround to solve this but I don't think it should be necessary.
Real geeks use RAID 0 - everything else is for wimps and no backup strategy is for nubies.
