bug with anaconda and legacy video? [Solved]

I have checked the md5sum and the disk, they check out fine.
anaconda will always crash, it makes it through creating the fs and starts to install...sometimes.
Other times it just crashes right away. The complete log is here

I have tried 3 separate video cards in this box. All nvidia legacy, It has no onboard video, only agp slot.
Am using kde, All works perfect on live, am posting this from live.
I have tried all the tricks that I know of, to get it to install. Used fdisk to partition the drive first, start from graphical or text installer, Am currently using xdriver=vesa.
Think for the next try, #51 I am going to install an old ati card see if that cures the error. It would at least change.
In fairness, it is older oddball hardware. A dell work station with dual xeon ht cpu's and 4 gigs of rdram the chipset is oddball intel and varies widely in lspci, the live sabayon disk works fine, it was recently a dual boot with xp/ubuntu they installed fine, is only anaconda that complains.

I'm having trouble pulling up your pastebin at the moment, but did you try using the 'genuine' kernel from the bootloader?

that was a great idea, did not work though. I also found the legacy option, no luck either.
I would like to try the ati card...I have one somewhere...cant find it.
I did find this, has the same error and seems relevant, will take me some time to decipher what I will need to do with the info, to make sabayon work.
Maybe a smart dev will take a peek at it

Reading your post more in depth and being able to pull up pastebin here's what I think now... I don't think this section is the installation crippling error if you're using vesa and you can get to the installer:

It's something you will have to address later if you want to use a driver other than vesa and have opengl support...

I am almost positive at this time your problem is at line 26 of your log:

The best solution I have for that is make sure your drives are not mounted at the time the installer attempts to adjust your partition tables. If you still have the error you will need to partition, then reboot for the changes to take place, verify your partitions are correct, then format and continue with the install.

Thanks for the reply, I have seen that error, 99% of the time, the report will end with the gpu error. A couple of times it has ended with the error you pointed out.
I have used fdisk to format the drive...another time I used it to create the partitions before installing.
I have unmounted the drive before starting the installer, am informed that the drive was not mounted.
the fdisk -l below, is what I created with the anaconda installer, this is the results after another failed attempt.
The system was installing, before the crash...about 20% At this point, when I reboot and start the installer.
I will be asked if I want to install or do a grub repair...Might be, it is having problems installing a driver?

So, if I remove all partitions and write the changes with fdisk, the installer creates the above partitions, installs 20% and then quits?
It would be worth the effort, if a bug was found and fixed, seems me and this old computer....the only one having a problem
Maybe this computer wants gentoo. It would be selfish of me to expect sabayon to work with all my old junk.

Are you having the installer partition every attempt? I remember having a very similar problem back in the days of kernel 2.2... Never figured out how to really fix it. I just settled for partition, reboot, create filesystems, install... Over the years I had stopped seeing it and assumed the kernel evolved. Perhaps I was wrong and it was my hardware that had evolved.

I am still trying, and I decided to check dmesg after it failed instalation. Never claimed to be a smart fool

This is screaming a bad dvd or burn. I did check it, and have used this dvd to install on 2 newer computers, a quad core and a dual core with no problems. A couple more lines,

Right now, I am thinking that the actual dvd r/w player is bad and giving the IO errors.
I dunno, I have no way of testing my theory, I bought it new 3 years ago, is the only ide burner I have. Everything else in the house is sata
Sooo, I am going to put the drive in my main box, install on it, then put it back in this box...should be the end of this thread...will post back and marked solved, soon as finished...wanted to post dmesg while I had them.

I think that confirms it... was the dvd burner that was bad. I put the drive in another computer, installed, put the hard drive back into this computer, am posting now from the difficult computer.
I used the same dvd, so the errors above...must have came from the player and not the dvd media.
slbmeh, I thank you for your help. The error you posted for me, really did help me keep looking.
If nothing else, I did learn more about reading the logs, and trying to decipher them...
And that sabayon 5.4 ROCKS!
